Passage: Exodus 19:1– 24:18

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- God's people ended up at Mount Sinai, but where does God say he brought his people in Exodus 9:4? What did God mean by "treasured posession" in Exodus 9:5? How does the idea of God treasuring his people make you feel?

- In Exodus 9:6, God calls his people a "nation" for the first time. What is the significance of being a nation? Furthermore, what is the significance of being God's "holy nation?"

- God establishes a covenant with his people. Explain what the "if" in Exodus 9:5 means. What weight does this put on the commandments that follow in Exodus 20:3-17?

- How did the people respond to God's conditional covenant in Exodus 24:3 and Exodus 24:7? How do you think you would have responded if you were there? Why do you think the people did not keep their promise to obey God's commandments? How can anyone be brought to God if they cannot keep his commandments?
