- In Matthew 8, what are some of the things that Jesus shows he has authority over? What do these displays of authority signify? What are the miracles of healing, the casting out demons and the calming of storms a foretaste of? Why should that matter to us?

- When talking to the centurion in Capernaum, what does Jesus marvel at? Why does Jesus bring up Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to the people listening? What is significant about what Jesus has to say about Jews and Gentiles?

- There are several examples of people responding to Jesus in Matthew 8. What were some of these responses? What was your initial response to Jesus? Was it similar to any of the responses we see in this chapter? How would you describe your response now?
