Passage: Matthew 10:1–42

HOME GROUP DISCUSSION

- There have been many Christians in America over the last few generations who tell those who still need Jesus that God has a wonderful plan for their lives. Is that true? What does Jesus say about the lives of his followers in Matthew 10?

- In Matthew 10:16, Jesus tells his followers that they will be like sheep among wolves in this world. If so, what should we expect our lives for Jesus (the Jesus of the Bible) to be like? Read John 15:18-21 and discuss. How is our current culture redefining Jesus and what it means to follow him?

- What assurances from God do we find in Matthew 10? (Hint: verses 20 and 39.) What are some other examples of assurances that can be found in Scripture? (Hint: 1 Peter 4:12-16.)

- In your life, have you or ones you love experienced persecution because of your faith in Christ? Was it frightening or painful? If the gospel tells us that there is nothing that can happen to us apart from the will of our Father in Heaven, is there any kind or amount of persecution from a hateful world that should make us not want to stand for Jesus?
