Passage: Matthew 25:31–46

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- What does our current culture think about God being a judge? How soon does the Bible start talking about God as judge? What kind of judge does the Bible say God is?

- Jesus tells us he will return with all the angels in Matthew 25:31. 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 also gives us a glimpse of Jesus' return with the angels. What is the tone of that passage?

- In Matthew 25:32-33, Jesus uses a shepherding illustration. What do you think is the difference between the "sheep" on the right and the "goats" on the left? Does the response of the "sheep" seem like people who are trying to earn God's forgiveness through their good works?

- Read Matthew 12:46-50. Who do you think the "brothers" are that Jesus mentions in Matthew 25:40? What does the apostle John say is a sign of our salvation in 1 John 3:14? In what ways does your life show your love for your "brothers" and "sisters?"
