- What emotional state is the writer of Psalm 42 and Psalm 43 in? Like this writer, have you ever felt like you would never stop crying, or that breakers and waves have gone over you, or that you have been wounded to the bone? What were your thoughts of God at that time?

- In the midst of trouble, have you ever thought God has forsaken you? Have you ever asked God if he has forsaken you? Can you think of someone from the gospel accounts who asked that very question? (hint: Mark 15:34) How do you explain his lament? Why is that comforting in your lament?

- What is the hope found in Psalm 42 and Psalm 43? Does God ever forsake his children? How can you help those lamenting around you to find hope?
