Psalm 58

Passage: Psalm 58:1–11

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- What is an imprecatory Psalm? Do you find it strange to read in Holy Scripture a request for God's wrath to fall on people? Why?

- Psalm 58:1 addresses the "gods" or "mighty lords" of David's time. Can you think of important men and rulers throughout history who have deserved God's wrath? Who could be considered their father? (hint: father of lies)

- Does the psalmist ask God to let him be the means of God's judgement on the wicked? What does that say about mankind's part in God's vengence and righteous wrath? What does Paul have to say about this in Romans 12:19?

- How does a chapter of imprecatory Scripture like Psalm 58 help us understand God better? How does it fit into the gospel of Jesus Christ?
