Passage: Colossians 1:15–23

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- Read John 14:9-11 and Hebrews 1:3-4. In what ways do we see God the Father in the life of Christ the Son? If Christ is King and should be preeminate in our lives, in what ways does your life reflect this?

- In Colossians 1:15, what does "firstborn" mean? Was Jesus creator or created? In Colossians 1:15-17, we see that Christ is preeminate over first creation. What is the difference between everything being created "through" Christ, and everything being created "for" Christ?

- Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-36. How is the church like a body? In Colossians 1:18, Jesus is called the head of the body of the church. What does this mean for a church? What does this mean for the individual members of churches?

- Colossians 1:22 tells us that those in Christ have now been "reconciled." What does that mean? How important do you think the "if" is in Colossians 1:23? What are the implications of that "if"?
