Passage: 1 Thessalonians 4:1–3

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- In 1 Thessalonians 4:1-3, Paul calls followers of Christ to walk in a way that pleases God and leads to sanctification and holiness by following the example of Paul and the other apostles and believers with him. What kinds of things do you think Paul was thinking of from his own life that they should immitate?

- What does it mean to "walk" to please God? Read Micah 6:8 and Colossians 1:9-10. What do these verses have to say about "walking?"

- What does sanctification mean in 1 Thessalonians 4:3? How is sanctification realated to holiness? How can our imperfect selves, which are plagued by the world, the flesh and the devil, be holy? What do Romans 12:1-2 and 1 Peter 1:14-16 have to say about that?

- In your pursuit of holiness, are you being sanctified over time? What evidence can you share from you life that supports this? How can you encourage others to holiness? Who can you encourage toward holiness?
