Over the past two weeks, we have spent time in God’s Word learning about the New Covenant and how it is practically applied in the visible church.  Since the sermons build on one another, we thought it might be helpful to share some of the definitions that Pastor Kyle has taught.

Sermon: New Covenant Community
New Covenant Summary
The New covenant is far better than the old and takes away the fault of the old covenant (our sin), fulfills and grants the blessings of other covenants through the Bible, regenerates us, grants us the Holy Spirit, forgives and reconciles us to God, and makes us members of the kingdom (both now and eternally). The New Covenant is secured by the sacrificial blood of Christ for all who have repented of sin and trusted in Christ.

Church summary
The church is the end-time heavenly assembly of all who have repented of sin and trusted in Christ and have thus become partakers of the New Covenant blessings. This New covenant community is expressed by and made visible through individual local congregations whose memberships ought to reflect, as much as possible, the true congregation of the last day.

Sermon: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
Baptism Summary
Baptism is immersion in water representing a person’s identification with the Triune God, reception of the Holy Spirit, forgiveness and cleansing from sin, union with Christ, a circumcised heart, and membership in the New Covenant church, all of which come by repentance and faith in Christ.

Lord’s Supper Summary
The Lord’s supper is an ongoing practice for all who have repented and trusted in Christ by faith. The supper remembers Christ’s sacrifice, fulfills the Passover, celebrates union with Christ, signifies forgiveness of sins and membership in the New Covenant church, and proclaims the gospel.
