Martinez Family Update

Ministry
The Martinez family’s ministry consists of planting biblical churches for the glory of God in Cusco, Peru and visiting the jungle area twice a year with a local pastor. Joe and Jayne serve at Iglesia Cristiana de la Gracia, translated as Grace Christian Church.

Cultural Challenges to the Gospel

• The Peruvian culture is a mixture of different native and religious beliefs. One of the challenges within the mountain of Cusco is syncretism. Most missionaries attempt to preach the gospel but fail to identify the ideas and superstitions that the locals combine with the Christian faith.
• With two universities located in Cusco, many students are being indoctrinated against any idea of God.
• Within the Peruvian culture, church is something reserved for women and therefore there are challenges when trying to minister to men.
