The Way of Wisdom

Passage: James 3:13– 4:12

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- In James 3:13-18, the author writes about wisdom. How would you define wisdom? James teaches that there are different kinds of wisdom: "from above" and "earthly." What are the attributes of each of these kinds of wisdom? Do you see evidence of one, the other, or both in your own life?

- In verse 13, James ties wisdom to "meekness." What is meekness? How does it relate to wisdom?

- In James 4:1-5, James talks about the path of our own desire. What does he mean by passions in verse 1? In verse 2, he accuses his readers of murder! How can he make that claim? (hint: read Matthew 5:21-22) Where does this path lead?

- In James 4:6-12, James reminds us (following Proverbs 3:34) that, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." How do the words proud and humble apply to your life? What does the Lord do for the humble believer? (verse 10)
