Passage: Matthew 6:24–33

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- In Mattehw 6:24, Jesus tells us we cannot serve God and our possessions. Is Jesus saying that possessions are evil? If not, what does he mean? Are there times in your life when you treasured possessions you've had more than God? If so, can you share an example?

- In Matthew 6:25-30, Jesus talks about the way God values his creation, from plants and animals to people. Have you ever felt like God didn't care about you or know your needs? Aside from these verses, how can we know God does care about us?

Matthew 19:16-24 records an encounter Jesus had with a rich young man. In what ways does this encounter relate to what Jesus said in Matthew 6:24-33? How did Jesus' disciples react to what Jesus said about the rich in Matthew 19:25? How did Jesus respond to his disciples reaction in Matthew 19:26? Describe what this means to you.

- What is the kingdom of God mentioned in Matthew 6:33? Are you a part of that kingdom? If so, what place does this kingdom have in your life?
