Passage: Matthew 19:16– 20:16

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

- When the rich, young ruler came to Jesus and asked him what he needed to do to have eternal life in Matthew 19:16, Jesus told him to keep God's commandments. When the young man asked which ones, Jesus seems to give a partial list; was Jesus confused about what the ten commandments are? Why did he point out the ones he did?

- In verse 20, the ruler says he has kept the commandments, but he seems to think he needs more. What do you think the rich, young ruler's problem really was? How does Jesus reveal this?

- Read 1 Timothy 6:6-12. Why is it so hard for us to be content with what we have? What was Jesus' illustration of a camel and the eye of a needle meant to convey in Matthew 19:24? How does the disciples' reaction point to our need for the gospel?
